5th Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon on April 13
The fifth edition of the Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon is set to take place on 1 Baisakh (April 13). Karnali Sports Club, Jumla, announced this during a press conference held on Monday. Saroj Shahi, the Club Chairperson, revealed that the marathon will kick off from Khalanga bazaar, Jumla’s district headquarters, and conclude at Rara Lake in Mugu.
Both local and international runners will participate in the 49-kilometer marathon, with an online application system in place for registration. The marathon aims to promote the trekking route from Jumla to Rara Lake and enhance Karnali Province’s recognition through sports.
Starting from Khalanga, situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level, the marathon will traverse through Danphe Pass and Chuchchremara Pass before reaching Rara Lake, located at 2,890 meters above sea level. Organizers anticipate over 1,000 participants in the race.
The winner of the 49-kilometer ultra-marathon will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000, the first runner-up Rs 75,000, and the second runner-up Rs 50,000. Application fees are set at Rs 14,500 for SAARC runners, Rs 16,000 for international runners, and Rs 7,000 for Nepali participants. The ultra-marathon will feature various categories catering to different participants.
