Reason behind Trump suggesting Canada as the 51st U.S. state
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has repeated his claim that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States, arguing it would reduce trade deficits and eliminate tariffs.
Trump criticized long-standing trade agreements with Canada, calling the $200-$250 billion trade deficit unfair. He also stated that the U.S. doesn’t rely on Canada for cars, oil, or gas.
Previously, Trump claimed such a move could cut taxes in Canada by over 60%. He also warned of a 25% tariff on Canadian goods unless illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking are addressed.
