Chitwan: The Chitwan National Park has started to internally relocate rhinos from Saturday. The number of rhinos has increased in the western region of the park. So, four rhinos are going to be relocated to the eastern region. This is in addition to six rhinos that were relocated last year.
The rhinos are going to be relocated using the park’s resources. Two male and two female rhinos are being relocated. This work is supposed to take about two weeks of time.
According to the latest census data available, there are 694 rhinos in Chitwan National Park, 38 in Bardiya National Park, 17 in Shuklaphanta National park and 3 in Parsa National Park. The relocation of rhinos in Chitwan National Park has been an essential conservation strategy aimed at boosting rhino populations, reducing risks from natural disasters, and expanding their habitat. Reasons for Relocation are said to be population management, habitat expansion, disaster mitigation and reducing poaching threat.
