Royal visit: Prince Edward and Princess Sophie arrive in Pokhara

British Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and Princess Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, arrived in Pokhara yesterday. They were warmly welcomed at Pokhara International Airport by Dhana Raj Acharya, Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor and Bharat Mani Pandey, Kaski Chief District Officer, among others. This royal visit aimed at strengthening UK-Nepal relations, with a particular focus on promoting tourism and cultural exchange.
Their Royal Highnesses later traveled on to Pokhara to observe how the UK, through various charities, provides support in Nepal to those who served in the British Army. At the Gurkha Welfare Trust Area Welfare Centre in Kaski, the Duke and Duchess heard about the facilities and care provided at the Residential Home, including accommodation and support for former Gurkhas and their families. Additionally, the visit seeks to promote youth empowerment, healthcare, women’s rights, and conservation efforts.
