BYD Strengthens Sustainability Efforts with Advanced Battery Recycling on Global Recycling Day

Kathmandu- On Global Recycling Day, BYD Auto Industry Company Limited has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability by launching a comprehensive battery recycling and reuse program. As the world accelerates its shift toward electric mobility, managing the lifecycle of EV batteries responsibly is essential to building a sustainable future.
To drive this initiative, BYD has partnered with two leading recycling service providers: IT Asset Partners, Inc. in Chatsworth, California, USA, and Anhui Lecheng Lithium-Ion Technology Co., Ltd. in Wuhu City, China. These agreements, formalized on May 28, 2024, will ensure the safe, responsible, and efficient recycling of lithium-ion battery packs used in BYD’s electric vehicles (EVs).
BYD’s Circular Approach to Battery Recycling
Both recycling partners are R2 (Responsible Recycler) Certified, adhering to global standards for sustainable recycling. The recycling process will include:
- Capacity Testing – Assessing the potential for battery reuse.
- Safe Dismantling – Carefully disassembling non-usable batteries.
- Material Recovery – Extracting valuable materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt for reuse.
- Eco-Friendly Processing – Ensuring that recovered materials are supplied to certified downstream millers, refineries, and smelters.
By adopting a circular economy model, BYD is reducing electronic waste, conserving natural resources, and minimizing its carbon footprint—ensuring a more sustainable EV ecosystem.
Driving a Greener Future
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Sahil Shrestha, CEO of Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., said:
“Sustainability goes beyond producing electric vehicles—it’s about creating a circular economy. Our commitment to responsible battery recycling ensures that EV technology remains environmentally friendly from production to disposal.”
Positive Impact in Nepal
With Nepal experiencing one of the fastest EV adoption rates globally, responsible battery disposal and recycling have become critical priorities. BYD’s initiative supports Nepal’s sustainability goals by ensuring that the country’s transition to electric mobility remains environmentally responsible.
Through its authorized distributor, Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., BYD is driving a cleaner future in Nepal by promoting sustainable transportation, renewable energy integration, and efficient battery management.
