Nepal-Myanmar Trade and Tourism Expo 2025

Kathmandu– The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon successfully organized the two-day “Nepal-Myanmar Trade and Tourism Expo 2025” on March 21-22, 2025 at Lotte Hotel, Yangon. Held under the slogan “Coming together for Trade and Tourism Promotion,” the Expo featured a vibrant showcase of commodities, tourism opportunities, and information technologies from participating companies of Nepal and Myanmar.
The Expo was jointly inaugurated by H.E. U Tun Ohn, Union Minister for Commerce, and Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire, Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar, with a grand ribbon-cutting and balloon-flying ceremony. The formal opening included presentations, cultural performances, and stall visits by the distinguished guests, followed by a networking dinner.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ghimire emphasized the Expo’s goal of strengthening Nepal-Myanmar ties beyond historical and religious connections, focusing on trade, tourism, and business partnerships. He highlighted tourism and IT services as promising sectors for collaboration and thanked key supporting partners, including the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), KK Business Group, Kyay O Kyee Petroleum Products Co. Ltd, Myanma Tourism Bank, and IT companies like Awesome Asia, Info Developers, Onepoint Financial Services, Citytech, Smart Choice Technologies, and Diyalo Technologies for their contributions. He also extended gratitude to participating travel and tour companies from Nepal and Myanmar.
Union Minister for Commerce H.E. U Tun Ohn underscored the deep-rooted Buddhist ties between Nepal and Myanmar, highlighting the significance of Lumbini to the people of Myanmar. He emphasized the need for establishing direct air connectivity between the two countries to boost tourism and trade.
Presidents of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industries (UMFCCI) and Nepal-Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry also highlighted the vast potential for collaboration in tourism and IT trade. Ms. Ranu Shah, Senior Manager of NTB, presented Nepal’s diverse tourist attractions beyond Lumbini, while Mr. Kyaw Dewa, Joint Secretary General of UMFCCI, discussed trade opportunities in pulses, beans, medicinal herbs, and handicrafts. Mr. Binod Pokhrel, representing a Nepali IT company, highlighted Nepal’s thriving IT sector.
The Expo featured over 50 booths displaying a range of products and services, including commodities, FMCG, gems and jewelry, tourism, and travel. Around 250 distinguished guests attended the event, including the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, the Minister of Economic Affairs of Yangon Region, representatives from UMFCCI, members of MYAWEN (Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Network), and leaders from UMTA, MTF, and MTMA. CEOs and CCTOs from the banking sector and members of the Nepali community also participated.
The Expo provided a valuable platform for enhancing bilateral trade and tourism cooperation between Nepal and Myanmar.
