NFPJ Announces 5th National Photojournalism Award 2025 in Press Meet

Kathmandu – The National Forum of Photojournalists(NFPJ) Nepal has announced the 5th National Photojournalism Award 2025, set to take place on Baisakh 13, 2082. The announcement was made during a press meet held in Kathmandu on Monday.
Honoring Excellence in Photojournalism
Speaking at the event, NFPJ Nepal emphasized that the award aims to recognize the talent, dedication, and contributions of professional photojournalists from Nepal and abroad.
NFPJ Nepal: A Pillar for Photojournalists
Established on Asoj 6, 2053, NFPJ Nepal is the first official institution dedicated to professional photojournalists in the country. The organization introduced the National Photojournalism Award in 2073 to honor outstanding contributions in the field.
16 Award Categories & Lifetime Achievement Honor
This year’s event will recognize photojournalists in 16 different categories, awarding winners with trophies and certificates.
Additionally, a Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to a distinguished photojournalist, which includes a cash prize of NPR 25,000, a trophy, and a certificate.
National & Provincial Award Categories
The national-level awards will be presented in nine categories, covering:

Overall Photojournalism
At the provincial level, outstanding photojournalists from Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces will be honored.
Application Process for the Awards
Photojournalists with over three years of professional experience can apply online.
Required Documents:
✔ A valid ID from their workplace
✔ Five best photographs (captured between Baisakh 2079 and Fagun 2081)
✔ Each photo must be in 12×18 inches size, 300 DPI quality, with captions
📝 Application Deadline: Chaitra 30, 2081 (Midnight)
Selection Committee & Evaluation Criteria
The award selection committee is chaired by Pradip Raj Onta, with panel members including:

The jury will evaluate photographs based on technical aspects, news value, ethics, social and cultural impact, innovation, and use of technology.
Additionally, Qiuheng Wang and CHE YuanYi from Yunnan Communication Group, China, were present at the event.
NFPJ’s Continued Efforts for Photojournalism
During the press meet, NFPJ President Pradip Raj Onta stated that the Nepalese government has yet to establish any national-level awards for photojournalists, which led to the launch of this program in 2073.
Previously, the award was held annually, but due to financial constraints, it is now organized once every two years.
This year, the organizing committee consists of Senior Vice President Sagar Shrestha as the coordinator, along with the Female Vice President, General Secretary, Secretary, Treasurer, and a seven-member team.

The National Photojournalism Award is not just a celebration of achievements but also an initiative to encourage and inspire Nepalese photojournalists in their profession.
