Tourism Sisterhood Advancing Women’s Participation in Nepal’s Tourism Sector
Kathmandu – The Tourism Sisterhood Nepal Association, a collective of women active in Nepal’s tourism industry, has intensified its efforts to increase women’s participation and leadership in the sector.
Established in 2018, the association has been working to build the capacity of women working in tourism, while promoting sustainable and responsible tourism practices. Speaking at an event organized in Kathmandu to mark the association’s seventh anniversary, President Junu Maleku stated that the organization has been dedicated to empowering women in tourism since its inception.
“We are focused on enhancing the skills of women engaged in tourism, making them more responsible and capable contributors to sustainable tourism development,” she said. According to her, the association has also been prioritizing women’s empowerment and leadership development.
Former President Anupa Budhathoki highlighted that the organization has been providing free training programs to women to encourage greater participation in the tourism workforce. She added that the association also supports underprivileged students pursuing tourism studies by offering educational assistance.
In addition, the association regularly organizes awareness trips to various destinations across Nepal to educate women on safe travel practices. Last year, the group conducted a trip to Rara, producing a documentary to promote women’s safety and tourism through social media campaigns.
Marking its seventh anniversary, the association partnered with Nimi Wellness Center to host a one-hour sound healing session aimed at introducing and promoting wellness tourism in Nepal.
Currently, nearly 100 women from across the tourism industry are actively involved in the Tourism Sisterhood Nepal Association.
