Nepal Reaffirms Commitment to One China Policy: Communications Minister Kharel
Kathmandu – Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has reaffirmed Nepal’s firm commitment to the One China policy, stating that Nepal and China share a long-standing relationship as close and friendly neighbors.
He made the remarks while addressing the fourth edition of the China–Nepal Media Summit held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Long-Standing Nepal–China Friendship
Speaking at the event, Minister Kharel highlighted the depth of Nepal–China relations and emphasized that Nepal has consistently upheld the One China policy. He expressed appreciation for the Chinese government’s continued support for Nepal’s development and social harmony.
“China is a long-time friendly and supportive neighbor of Nepal,” Minister Kharel said, noting that bilateral ties have remained strong and cooperative over the years.
China’s Contribution to Nepal’s Development
The Communications Minister acknowledged China’s significant role in Nepal’s development, particularly in infrastructure building. He also highlighted China’s contributions across multiple sectors, including economic development, education, health, tourism, culture, and heritage conservation.
“China has made notable contributions, especially in Nepal’s infrastructure development, as well as in economic growth, education, health, tourism, culture, and heritage promotion,” he said, extending gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their continued cooperation and assistance.
Discussion on Media Cooperation
The summit also featured remarks from Zhu Feng, Consular Officer of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal, who spoke on various dimensions of Nepal–China relations and the importance of mutual understanding through media cooperation.
Platform for Media Dialogue
Organized jointly by South Asia Network Television and the Nepal China Media Forum, the China–Nepal Media Summit focused on discussions between Chinese and Nepali media professionals. The event provided a platform for dialogue on international issues and explored ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange between media institutions of the two countries.
