NFPJ Holds 28th Annual General Meeting, Honors Photojournalists in Five Categories
The National Forum of Photo Journalists Nepal (NFPJ) successfully held its 28th Annual General Meeting on Sunday at the auditorium of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts in Naxal, Kathmandu. The event was conducted under the chief guestship of Academy Chancellor Narad Mani Hartamchhali.
Photography as a Powerful Communication Medium
Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Hartamchhali described photography as one of the simplest, fastest, and most impactful means of communication in society. He emphasized the need to advance photography by harmonizing it with nature, technology, and culture, noting its growing relevance in the modern communication landscape.
Organizational Reports and Future Priorities
Senior Vice President Lekh Bahadur Shrestha “Sagar” delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the formal proceedings. NFPJ President Pradeep Raj Onta presented the annual chairperson’s report, outlining programs to be implemented within the current fiscal year and sharing the organization’s long-term strategic direction.
President Onta stated that the upcoming term would prioritize social security for photojournalists, professional empowerment, and capacity building. He reaffirmed NFPJ’s commitment to making the organization more inclusive, stronger, and more effective.
General Secretary Ghanshyam Shrestha presented the progress report for fiscal year 2081-82, highlighting notable advancements in organizational expansion, capacity development, international cooperation, and the protection of photojournalists’ rights and interests. He added that professional safety and digital skill enhancement would be further strengthened in the coming period.
Treasurer Pradeep Kumar Shrestha presented the income and expenditure statement for the same fiscal year. The general meeting unanimously endorsed all submitted reports.
Photojournalism Honors Presented
On the occasion, the prestigious Hari Gopal Pradhan Photojournalism Award was conferred in five categories. Nabin Babu Gurung received the Adventure Photojournalism Award, Uddhav Shrestha was honored with the Environment and Tourism Photojournalism Award, and Subas Mukhiya Sunuwar received the Entertainment Photojournalism Award. Chandrakala Chhetri was recognized with the Cultural Photojournalism Award, while Shankar Bhujel received the Sports Photojournalism Award.
Additionally, the Madhav Thapa Risk Photojournalism Award 2082, established by former Armed Police Force Deputy Inspector General Madhav Thapa, was awarded to NFPJ Secretary Prabin Kulung Rai. The Institutional NFPJ President Award 2082 was presented to Vice President Sunil Sharma.
Strong Participation and Commitment Ahead
The program witnessed the presence of former NFPJ presidents Kabindra Man Shakya, Raj Bhai Suwal, Rajendra Chitrakar, along with central committee members, lifetime members, and general members.
Concluding the assembly, NFPJ reiterated its commitment to moving forward as a stronger, more responsible, and mature organization through active member participation, continuous support from well-wishers, constructive feedback, and healthy criticism.
