CAN Federation and Leadership Honored for Contributions to ICT Skill Development
The Government of Nepal has honored the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and its senior leadership for their transformative contributions to the development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, digital literacy, and skilled human resource generation in the country.
The recognition was conferred during a special ceremony organized on the occasion of the second anniversary of the National Academy of Vocational Training (NAVT), under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. The event was held at Bhaisepati, Lalitpur.
At the ceremony, the CAN Federation was honored institutionally, while two of its office bearers received individual commendation certificates. Senior Vice President Chiranjeevi Adhikari was recognized for his leadership role in laying the foundation for professional ICT training in Nepal. Similarly, General Secretary Chandra Bilas Bhurtel was honored for his notable contribution as the coordinator of the curriculum drafting subcommittee.
The awards were jointly presented by Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Labour Secretary and Chairperson of the NAVT Development Committee Dr. Deepak Kafle, and NAVT Executive Director Ramesh Kumar Bakhti.
According to the CAN Federation, the recognition is largely attributed to the “Skills in Hands” initiative conceptualized by Chiranjeevi Adhikari during his tenure as General Secretary. The initiative emphasizes practical, industry-relevant skills over certificate-oriented education by integrating soft skills with technical and vocational competencies. This approach aims to ensure that trainees acquire real-world skills aligned with industry standards rather than focusing solely on academic credentials.
In the fiscal year 2081/82, the NVTA and CAN Federation jointly developed two foundational, skill-based curricula in the computer and ICT sector to address labor market demands. These programs were designed to directly link skill development with employment opportunities and economic needs.
Accepting the honor, the CAN Federation reaffirmed its commitment to continue collaborating with the government to strengthen ICT skill development and job creation in Nepal. The federation stated that it plans to further expand its programs to equip Nepal’s workforce with competitive skills required to thrive in the global digital economy.
