WordCamp Nepal 2026 to Be Held in Butwal, Marking Major Shift in Nepal’s Tech Landscape
In a significant move to decentralize Nepal’s technology and innovation ecosystem, the organizing committee of WordCamp Nepal has announced that the national WordPress conference will be held in Butwal for the first time.
Scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2026, WordCamp Nepal 2026 will take place at Manigram Bishram Batika, positioning Lumbini Province at the center of Nepal’s growing digital community. The decision marks a departure from the long-standing tradition of hosting major technology events exclusively in Kathmandu.
Organizers said the move reflects a broader effort to bridge the digital divide and expand access to global technology platforms beyond the capital. By hosting WordCamp in Butwal, developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and students from the Terai region will gain direct exposure to international WordPress expertise, open-source collaboration, and digital business opportunities.
WordPress currently powers a significant share of websites worldwide and plays an increasingly important role in Nepal’s digital economy, particularly in e-commerce, content management, digital marketing, and freelancing. Industry observers note that regional access to WordPress knowledge can help accelerate local entrepreneurship and remote work opportunities.
Two-Day Program Structure
WordCamp Nepal 2026 will follow the standard two-day format adopted by WordCamps globally.
The first day, January 23, will be observed as Contributor Day, during which participants will collaborate on improving the WordPress ecosystem. Activities will include resolving technical issues, contributing to core development, translating WordPress into local languages, and supporting documentation and accessibility initiatives.
The second day, January 24, will be the main Conference Day, featuring keynote speeches, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops led by experienced professionals. Sessions will focus on web development trends, plugin and theme development, SEO, digital marketing, and best practices for building scalable online platforms.
Butwal as an Emerging Tech Destination
Strategically located between Lumbini and Bhairahawa, Butwal has been gaining attention as a growing commercial and educational hub. Organizers said the city offers an ideal balance of accessibility, infrastructure, and cultural appeal, allowing participants to combine professional learning with local exploration.
Inclusive Participation
WordCamp Nepal 2026 is open to a broad audience, including web developers, designers, content creators, bloggers, business owners, and students. Organizers emphasized that the event is designed to be inclusive, welcoming both beginners and experienced professionals interested in the open-source ecosystem.
Registration Open
Online registration for WordCamp Nepal 2026 is now open, and organizers expect strong participation given the event’s regional significance. With limited seating and growing interest in WordPress-driven careers, early registration has been encouraged.
The Butwal edition of WordCamp Nepal is widely seen as a milestone in Nepal’s technology sector, signaling a shift toward more inclusive, regionally balanced digital growth and stronger community-driven innovation.
