Unnamed (VR) wins Ncell App Camp 2015 grand prize
Team Unnamed (VR) won the grand prize of Ncell App Camp 2015, the biggest mobile app development conclave of the country. The team is also the winner under Games and Entertainment.
In Health category, Skin Consult was the winner. Pinpeaks and Nidarr won the prizes under Tourism and Utilities categories. Being the grand winner Unnamed (VR) has won a total of Rs 7,50,000 ( Rs 2,50,000 as category winner and Rs 5,00,000 as grand prize winner) cash prize. Other three winners under each category has bagged cash prize of Rs 2,50,000.
CEO of Ncell Erim Taylanlar handed over the grand prize amid a function on Tuesday. Games and Entertainment category’s prize was handed over by Bishnu Raj Adhikari, managing director of Kathmandu College of Management (KCM). Health category’s prize was presented by Nirmal Kajee Shrestha, chief distribution officer of Metlife. Sashin Joshi, CEO of Nabil Bank handed over prize to the winner under Tourism category. Similarly, category prize of Utilities was handed over by Biswas Dhakal, chairman of e-Sewa.
The grand prize winner—Unnamed (VR)—is a 3D game in which the user finds himself inside an old abandoned hospital haunted by zombies. This team also gets an opportunity to participate in an international event in 2016.
Sheetal Kumar Maharjan, team leader of Unnamed (VR) said it was dream come true and a responsibility to uplift the local gaming app sector. “We would have just been an unknown developer without Ncell App Camp,” he added.
Addressing the prize handover ceremony, CEO of Ncelll Erim Taylanlar said that the winners could use the cash prize a seed money for startup. “The world is moving towards rapid development of ICT, and Ncell is proud to have been able to contribute towards it,” he said.
Chief guest of the event Kabi Raj Khanal, joint-secretary of Ministry of Information and Communication Technology also congratulated the winners. He said that the government would work on creating new possibilities for the app developers.
A total of 24 teams six each from the four categories—Games and Entertainment, Health, Tourism and Utilities—were selected as finalists from 150 teams selected for the Ncell App Camp 2015. This year there was registration of 728 ideas for the Ncell App Camp.
The 24 teams were selected on the basis of pre-announced criteria: importance of problem the app aimed to solve, the app’s business potential, its global scalability, and how the teams could articulate and present their ideas. Nabil Bank, Kathmandu College of Management, e-Sewa and MetLife are partners of the event.
