Chinese Ambassador meets PM Karki, discusses strategic ties
Kathmandu: A courtesy call was paid on Prime Minister Sushila Karki at the Prime Minister’s office in Singha Durbar on Friday by the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, H.E. Zhang Maoming, where the two leaders reaffirmed commitments to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation.
Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Maoming on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure, expressing confidence that he would effectively carry out his responsibilities and help elevate the longstanding friendly relations between Nepal and China.
Ambassador Maoming thanked the prime minister for the courtesy call despite her busy schedule and congratulated Nepal on maintaining peace, security and the rule of law. He said the environment ensured that elections would be held peacefully and reaffirmed China’s continued support for Nepal’s democratic process.
He also noted that in 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to Nepal, during which bilateral ties were elevated to a “generation-long friendly strategic cooperative partnership for development and prosperity.” He expressed to deepen high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and other areas, and promote the building of a China-Nepal community with a shared future.
Prime Minister expressed gratitude for China’s goodwill and assistance during Nepal’s electoral process and thanked China for its support and partnership in various development projects. She added that cultural, geographic and historical ties closely link the two nations. She reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the principles of Panchsheel and its adherence to the One-China policy, saying Nepal would not allow any activities on its soil that could harm its neighbors. She emphasized that instability in one country can affect another and stressed the need to strengthen mutual cooperation to promote regional peace and stability.
Ambassador Maoming conveyed appreciation for Nepal’s consistent policy and position on behalf of the Chinese Presidnet and people.
The two also exchanged greetings on the occasion of the New Year, the Year of the Horse, celebrated by people in both countries.
