Historic breakthrough: Nepalbhasa’s first ott platform Newa-Flix officially launched
Kathmandu: Nepalbhasa’s first over-the-top (OTT) platform, Newa-Flix, has been officially announced at a special event held at Kirtipur Cineplex, Kirtipur. The platform has been presented by Elohan Entertainment with the aim of expanding digital access to Nepalbhasa films and music videos.
The event has been attended by Mr. Dinesh DC, Chairperson of the Film Development Board of Nepal, as the chief guest.
A welcome address has been delivered by Mr. Naresh Bir Shakya, Managing Director of Elohan Publication, in which it has been stated that Elohan Publication has been operated continuously for the past 26 years. It has been highlighted that major changes in technology and audience habits have been witnessed over time, and the launch of Elohan Entertainment has been driven by the need to move forward in line with modern platforms.
Support for Nepalbhasa cinema has been expressed by Mr. Narendra Maharjan, Chairperson of Kirtipur Cineplex, and filmmakers have been encouraged to approach him if difficulties are faced in screening Nepalbhasa films. The importance of collective effort for the promotion and continuity of Nepalbhasa cinema has also been emphasized.
Kirtipur’s historic identity and its role in the creative journey have been recalled by Mr. Raj Bhai Suwal, senior photographer. It has been noted that screening formats have been changed over time, and the growing trend of OTT releases has been pointed out as a key shift in film distribution. Confidence has been expressed that Nepalbhasa cinema will now be taken to wider audiences through digital platforms, while appreciation has been extended to the organizers for the initiative.
As chief guest, Mr. Dinesh DC has been heard reflecting on past cultural movements, including pamphlet campaigns and wall writings. The contribution of Mr. Darshan Bir Shakya, Chief Operating Officer of Elohan Publication, towards heritage and cultural preservation has been praised. The need for the digitization of landmark works such as Silu and Rajmati has been stressed, and Newa-Flix has been described as a timely and effective platform for the promotion of Nepalbhasa content.
During the program, the initiative has been described as a new milestone for the Nepalbhasa sector by Mr. Darshan Bir Shakya, Chief Operating Officer of Elohan Publication. It has been shared that involvement in Nepalbhasa activities has been continued since childhood, and the platform has been developed through two years of dedicated effort. Technical support has been provided by Plutonic Media, and it has been informed that Nepalbhasa films and music videos can now be accessed online through Newa-Flix. Support from audiences has been requested for the platform’s growth.
It has been stated that the platform will be especially beneficial for viewers who are unable to visit cinema halls, as digital distribution is being used to widen accessibility. A past period of restrictions around 2022 B.S. has been recalled, and it has been emphasized that progress must be made according to changing times. Newa-Flix has been positioned as a platform expected to strengthen Nepalbhasa cinema both in reach and commercial viability.
The program has been chaired by Ms. Pragya Devi Shakya, president of Elohan Entertainment, where tokens of appreciation have been presented to guests. Newa-Flix has been formally announced with the vision of taking Nepalbhasa films, culture, and heritage to a global audience through digital media.
