Nepal’s Six-Member Wushu and Archery Team Leaves for Kunming, China
KATHMANDU – A six-member delegation from Nepal has departed for Kunming, China, to participate in the “China–Nepal Martial Arts and Cultural Exchange Program,” aimed at strengthening sports and cultural relations between the two nations.
The team represents Nepal in the fields of martial arts and traditional archery. Members of the delegation include Rajiv Maharjan, Raj Kumar Rai, Temba Bhote, Shankar Bhujel, Umesh Maharjan, and Raj Maharjan. During their stay in Kunming, the participants will receive advanced training from Chinese instructors in modern martial arts techniques as well as traditional archery practices.
According to Abhishek Bikram Shah, President of the Kathmandu Zhengji Traditional Archery Association and Vice President of the Nepal Wushu Federation, the visit is primarily focused on skill transfer and technical training. The training session, scheduled to run for one week, will provide Nepali participants with opportunities to learn various aspects of Chinese martial arts and traditional archery while also showcasing Nepal’s indigenous sports culture to the Chinese sporting community.
Shah noted that the initiative builds upon the enthusiasm generated during a previous seminar organized in Nepal and is expected to further professionalize the collaboration between the two countries.
Rajiv Maharjan, President of the Martial Arts Organization Nepal, described the program as a successful implementation of earlier agreements between the organizations. He expressed confidence that the training will enhance the capacity of Nepali athletes and coaches and contribute to elevating the standards of martial arts and traditional archery in Nepal to international levels.
Prior to their departure, the team was formally bid farewell during a special ceremony organized by the Kathmandu Zhengji Traditional Archery Association. During the event, the association’s leadership extended best wishes to the participants and encouraged them to complete the training successfully and bring pride to the nation.
The program has been jointly coordinated by the Kathmandu Zhengji Traditional Archery Association Nepal and the Martial Arts Organization Nepal. As part of the mutual cooperation between institutions of the two countries, the Nepali delegation has been invited for training by the Kunming Zhengji Traditional Organization in China.
