Nepal’s stunning tourism potential showcased at MITT 2026 Moscow
Kathmandu – Nepal’s presence in the international tourism market has been further strengthened through the showcasing of its diverse tourism potential at the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT) 2026, held in Moscow, the capital of Russia.
The prestigious tourism exhibition was held from March 11 to 13 at the Crocus Expo Center and was marked as its 32nd edition this year. Tourism destinations, service providers, and travel businesses from more than 30 countries were featured at the event, where an estimated 16,000 visitors were recorded during the three-day exhibition.
Participation in the event was made by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in collaboration with seven private sector travel and tour companies, through which Nepal was presented as a comprehensive tourism destination. Nepal’s distinctive tourism offerings, including Himalayan adventure tourism, trekking, mountaineering, Buddhist and Hindu religious tourism, nature-based experiences, and rich cultural diversity, were highlighted during the exhibition.
At the Nepal Pavilion, detailed information on the country’s tourism experiences was provided to visitors. The breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas, the spiritual significance of Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, renowned trekking routes, and Nepal’s vibrant cultural heritage were presented.
The Nepali delegation was led by Mr. Ram Chandra Tiwari, Executive Committee Member of the Nepal Tourism Board and Director General of the Department of Immigration. The delegation was also joined by Mr. Santosh Panta, Senior Director of NTB, and Mr. Kabindra Bhatta, Senior Officer of NTB.
During the exhibition, interactions and discussions were held with Russian and international tourism professionals, through which Nepal was presented as a safe, diverse, and unforgettable travel destination.
It was stated by Mr. Ram Chandra Tiwari that international tourism fairs such as MITT are regarded as highly significant for the global promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector. It was further noted by him that considerable opportunities are offered by the Russian market, as strong interest in adventure tourism, Himalayan trekking, and cultural experiences has been shown by Russian travelers.
Similarly, the Russian market was described as an emerging tourism market for Nepal by Mr. Santosh Panta, Senior Director of NTB. It was emphasized by him that Nepal’s combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual experiences makes the country an attractive destination for Russian visitors seeking unique travel experiences.
It was also expressed by private sector tourism entrepreneurs participating in the event that MITT 2026 had provided an effective platform through which direct connections with the Russian tourism market could be established.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Pavilion was visited by Mr. Maheshwor Mani Tripathi, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Nepal in Russia, and facilitation was provided by him for the successful organization of the program. The importance of strengthening tourism cooperation between Nepal and Russia was also emphasized by him.
This year, the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia is being marked, and it has been believed by NTB officials that Nepal’s participation in MITT 2026 will further strengthen tourism collaboration between the two countries.
According to tourism statistics, more than 15,000 Russian tourists visited Nepal in 2025, through which the growing potential of the Russian market for Nepal’s tourism sector has been highlighted. It has also been stated by the Nepal Tourism Board that Nepal’s tourism opportunities will continue to be promoted globally through similar international platforms in the coming days.
