Join the movement: Women’s 5K Fun Run in Nepal
Kathmandu – Higher Ground Nepal has announced that its annual International Women’s Month 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 7:00 AM at Jawalakhel Football Ground.
More than 2,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, which is being organized to promote women’s empowerment, inclusion, equality, and community solidarity.
According to the organizers, the event is intended to raise awareness about the need to dismantle structural barriers and challenge social norms that continue to hinder gender equality while encouraging the wider community to stand together for the rights and dignity of women and girls.
The 5-kilometer route has been designed to be inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities. The course will pass through key locations in Lalitpur, including Bhanimandal, Higher Ground Bakery, Thadodhunga, Sanepa Kharibot, The Workshop Eatery, Arun Thapa Chowk, Herman’s Bakery, Pump Fitness, and the premises of St. Mary’s and St. Xavier’s schools, before concluding at Jawalakhel Football Ground near the Central Zoo. Organizers said the flat and motorable route is suitable for families, strollers, and wheelchair users.
A special wheelchair run will be led by the Jawalakhel Wheelchair Sports Club and the Nirmala Foundation, with participation from white cane users of Blind Rocks, reflecting the event’s focus on accessibility and inclusion.
Since its launch in 2015, the Higher Ground Fun Run has drawn more than 10,000 participants and helped raise funds for a range of community initiatives. This year, proceeds from the event will support the Nepal Cancer Support Group, scholarships for children in Dukuchap, financial literacy and business training, and local grassroots women’s organizations in Lalitpur.
The program will begin with a warm-up session by Titan Zumba Fitness, followed by the run. A musical performance by Blind Rocks will be presented after the race. Stalls featuring women entrepreneurs and community partners will also be set up at the venue, while children will be offered a dedicated play area and face-painting activities.
The registration fee has been set at Rs. 500, which includes an event T-shirt and finisher medal. Awards will be presented to winners in the Men’s, Women’s, Under-18, and Wheelchair categories.
