Inspiring International Tai Chi Day was observed in Patan

Kathmandu – International Tai Chi Day was observed grandly at Patan Durbar Museum, marking the first such celebration in Nepal. The event was jointly organized by the Nepal Taichichuan Federation, the China Culture Center, and the Nepal Araniko Society as part of the global observance held on March 21.
The program was conducted under the slogan “Fit for Life, Go for Tai Chi,” with the participation of more than 100 Nepali athletes of national and international standing. Various forms of Tai Chi were demonstrated during the event.
Basic Tai Chi demonstrations were presented on behalf of Patan Museum and Lalitpur, while athletes from the Nepal Tai Chi Center showcased the Bafaofu Form, 8 Form, and 13 Form. A 42 Form presentation was also delivered by South Asian Games gold medalist Angbabu Lama, second International Tai Chi Competition silver medalist Sunij Shrestha, and Amir Lama.
A Tai Chi sword demonstration by SAFF silver medalist Macharatna Maharjan was featured as one of the major highlights of the event. On the occasion, a video message conveying best wishes for the success of the program was sent by Grandmaster Wu Bin, former Vice President of the Chinese Wushu Association and President of the Beijing Wushu Institute.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, who attended the function as chief guest, honored Karma Lama in recognition of his contribution as the pioneer of Tai Chi in Nepal.
Following the Wushu demonstration, a series of musical performances were presented by the Inner Mongolian Artist Group. A violin performance was also delivered by Tai Chi athlete Riza Shree Maharjan. Remarks delivered by 82-year-old athlete Annapurna Kunwar, encouraging the younger generation, drew notable attention during the ceremony.
During the event, Nepal Araniko Society President Sushil Prajapati and China Culture Center Deputy Director Liu Chan Fing shared insights into the importance and distinctive values of Tai Chi.
Speaking on the occasion, Macharatna Maharjan, president of the Nepal Taichichuan Federation, said plans had been made to expand Tai Chi training to different parts of the country with the objective of promoting healthier citizens.
Support for the initiative was also expressed by Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, who stated that Lalitpur Metropolitan City would remain ready to assist in the expansion of Tai Chi, describing it as a discipline that contributes to both physical and mental well-being.
The Nepal Taichi Chuan Federation has been conducting Tai Chi training in various locations across Kathmandu.
