Private Schools prohibited from charging fees for Baisakh month, Says Ministry
Kathmandu-Private schools in Nepal will not be allowed to collect fees for the month of Baisakh, according to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Mahendra Parajuli, spokesperson for the Education and Human Resource Development Center under the ministry, clarified that since the government has decided to begin classes only from Baisakh 21, no school fees should be charged for the month.
His statement comes amid confusion among parents over whether they are required to pay fees for Baisakh, as schools previously used to begin enrollment and the academic session from the first day of Baisakh.
Earlier practice in Nepal saw schools starting admission campaigns and the academic year from Baisakh 1, with parents paying fees from the beginning of the month. However, with the revised academic calendar, the government has now shifted the start of regular classes to Baisakh 21, effectively removing the justification for charging fees for the full month.
