NADA Raises Concerns Over Mandatory Price Tag Rule in Automobile Sector
Kathmandu — A delegation from the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal held a meeting with the Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection regarding the implementation of mandatory price tag stickers, including VAT, on automobiles.
The discussion focused on the recent directive requiring all goods sold in Nepal to display prices inclusive of VAT. While NADA expressed its support for transparency and consumer awareness, the association highlighted several practical challenges in applying the rule within the automobile sector.
According to NADA representatives, automobile pricing is influenced by multiple factors such as import costs, taxation policies, and currency fluctuations. Concerns were also raised regarding the applicability of the rule to previously imported vehicles already in stock and the operational difficulties it may create for businesses.
In response, Director General Narayan Prasad Bhandari stated that the provision is in line with the Consumer Protection Act 2075 and is part of the government’s effort to strengthen consumer rights and market transparency. He emphasized that the rule will be implemented while ensuring coordination with stakeholders.
The department also assured that necessary facilitation and possible adjustments would be considered to address sector-specific concerns and ensure smooth enforcement of the regulation.
The meeting was attended by NADA Vice President Rajan Babu Shrestha, General Secretary Surendra Kumar Upreti, Treasurer Pankaj Agrawal, and Central Working Committee Member Narayan Prasad Poudel, among others.
