Danfe Airlines Ready to Fly: Nepal’s New Airline Promises Better Air Travel
Kathmandu — A new chapter in Nepal’s aviation sector is set to begin as Danfe Airlines prepares to launch operations, promising improved connectivity, modern aircraft, and a premium passenger experience across domestic and regional routes.
Inspired by Nepal’s national bird, the Himalayan Monal (Danfe), the airline reflects a vision rooted in national identity and Himalayan heritage. The name symbolises resilience and connection—qualities the airline aims to bring into Nepal’s air travel industry.
The story of Danfe Airlines dates back to 2012 in Evenes, Norway, where its founders first met while working on an aircraft sales and maintenance mission for Makalu Air. Sharing a common goal of improving aviation in Nepal, the two—one with expertise in airline maintenance and the other in aviation management—began a journey that would eventually lead to the creation of Danfe Airlines.
After years of planning and collaboration, the founders made a major move in 2023 by acquiring Makalu Air. This milestone allowed them to rebrand and restructure the company under the Danfe Airlines identity, with a broader vision of expanding services and modernising operations.
Under its new management, Danfe Airlines plans to introduce a fleet of six ATR 72-600 aircraft. These modern turboprop planes are known for their efficiency, safety, and suitability for Nepal’s challenging geography. The airline aims to operate on major domestic trunk routes as well as selected regional international destinations.
According to the company, the ATR 72-600 aircraft will offer improved passenger comfort with spacious cabins, better legroom, and efficient air-conditioning systems. The aircraft also feature advanced safety systems, including a full glass cockpit and reduced pilot workload, ensuring safer and smoother operations.
Danfe Airlines has positioned itself as a “boutique airline,” focusing not just on transportation but on delivering a high-quality flying experience. The airline has stated that it will prioritise safety, on-time performance, and customer service, aiming to set a new standard in Nepal’s aviation sector.
Industry observers note that the entry of Danfe Airlines could bring healthy competition and innovation, particularly at a time when demand for reliable and comfortable air travel is growing. If successfully launched, the airline is expected to play a key role in strengthening Nepal’s connectivity, supporting tourism, and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
With its modern fleet, international vision, and roots grounded in Nepal’s identity, Danfe Airlines is positioning itself as a promising new player ready to reshape the country’s skies.
