Nepal Steps Into the AI Future With First Tier IV Hyperscale Data Center
Kathmandu — Bichuten Data Vault Pvt. Ltd. has announced the construction of Nepal’s first Tier IV Hyperscale AI Data Center to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and data security.
The project will be developed at two sites, Kathmandu and Birgunj, with an initial capacity of 240 kilowatts. The company plans to expand the capacity to 5 megawatts by 2030.
According to BDV, the data center will target Tier IV certification with 99.995 percent uptime, allowing less than 26 minutes of downtime annually. The facility is expected to support sectors such as banking, telecommunications, government services, cloud computing, and AI-based systems.
The company said it has partnered with VVDN Technologies, Google Cloud, AMD, and Micron for technology and expertise. The project is led by Nepali entrepreneurs Naveen Agrawal, Min Agrawal, Anuj Keyal, Vishal Kumar Jatia, and Sharad Goyal.
BDV said the project will support in-country data residency, helping keep Nepal’s data within the country and reducing dependence on foreign servers. The company also said the infrastructure will be energy-efficient and powered by Nepal’s hydroelectricity.
The project is also expected to create employment opportunities in Nepal’s IT and engineering sectors. BDV has said it has a long-term vision to support local manufacturing of servers, cameras, laptops, and tablets in Nepal.
