Five Crew Missing After K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 Cargo Plane Crash
Karachi: A major search operation is under way after a K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft crashed into the Arabian Sea while flying from the UAE to Karachi.
According to Pakistani aviation authorities, the plane lost radar and radio contact at around 9:21 p.m. local time on Tuesday, about 290 kilometers west of Karachi. Flight data reportedly showed a sharp descent before contact was lost.
All five crew members on board remain missing. They have been identified as Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, Flight Engineers Muhammad Hamid and Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and Aircraft Loader Muhammad Taufiq Khan.
Rescue crews have recovered some debris believed to be from the aircraft, but rough sea conditions are making the search difficult. Officials say strong waves, wind and ocean currents may have carried floating wreckage far from the crash site.
Authorities are still working to locate the main wreckage, which experts believe may be deep below the sea surface. The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed, and an investigation is ongoing.
