Nepal’s Wushu Taolu Squad heads to China for Asian Games Training
Kathmandu – Nepal’s Wushu Taolu team is set to depart for Kunming, China, on Sunday for a training camp in preparation for the 20th Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan.
The squad includes Hari Gole, Rajiv Tamang, Deepak Hamal, Bijay Sinjali, and Sabita Rai. Sushmita Tamang, who has already qualified for the Asian Games and is currently in China, will join the team there. Prakash Maharjan will accompany the team as head coach.
In addition to the Asian Games squad, athlete Nima Gharti Magar and coach Nabin Basnet will also travel to China. According to Nepal Wushu Federation General Secretary Navaraj Dhungana, the athletes will undergo training at Yunnan University with support from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
Dhungana said the training camp is initially scheduled for one month, while efforts are underway to extend it by another month. He also said the federation is working to arrange similar training in Yunnan for Nepal’s Sanda athletes who will compete at the Asian Games.
The team was officially bid farewell on Friday by National Sports Council Member Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta and Wang Dong, Consular Officer at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
Speaking at the farewell ceremony, Mehta said overseas training would boost the athletes’ confidence and wished them success at the Asian Games. He also expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for facilitating the training program.
Wang Dong noted that Yunnan University has a long history of sports cooperation with Nepal and said the Nepali athletes would benefit from high-quality training facilities and coaching during their stay in China.
