KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shishir Khanal, held talks on Monday with former Mongolian Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar.
The meeting focused on strengthening relations between Nepal and Mongolia and expanding cooperation in trade, development, cultural exchange, diplomacy, and shared Buddhist values.
Minister Khanal said the two countries face similar challenges as landlocked nations and could work together to protect their common interests at regional and international forums. He also expressed Nepal’s interest in learning from Mongolia’s experience in maintaining balanced relations with neighbouring countries.
Khanal added that Nepal wants to expand cooperation with Mongolia in economic partnership, development, tourism, culture, and spiritual exchange. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building closer and more practical relations between the two countries.
Former Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar said smaller countries such as Nepal and Mongolia should cooperate more closely in a changing global environment. He described the two nations as spiritual neighbours because of their shared Buddhist heritage and cultural values.
Zandanshatar also expressed Mongolia’s interest in supporting cooperation related to Buddhist culture, people-to-people exchange, and the development of chess in Nepal.
