Jajarkot: Four people have died and six others have been injured after landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall struck several areas of Bheri Municipality in Jajarkot. Three people who went missing after the landslides on Saturday evening were found dead on Sunday morning. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Bhim Bahadur Karki, around 87-year-old Rati Khatri, her 54-year-old son Uma Singh Khatri, and 52-year-old Kedar Karki, who died during treatment at Medical College Kohalpur.
The landslides occurred after heavy rainfall began at around 4 p.m. on August 15, affecting Bheri Municipality–2, including Risang and Chisapani. Several houses and temporary shelters were damaged, while six people sustained injuries. Among them, 60-year-old Ram Bahadur Shahi and 57-year-old Bhadrakali Karki were seriously injured and referred to Medical College Kohalpur for further treatment. Three other injured people were discharged from Jajarkot District Hospital after treatment.
The landslides have also displaced hundreds of residents from high-risk areas. Around 150–200 people from 60–70 households in Risang have been relocated to Tribhuvan Basic School, while another 54 people have been moved to safer locations in Jhyalkhet Danda, Chisapani, Rautere Danda and Risang Pharula. A two-storey house in Bheri–3, Syala, was completely destroyed, while two temporary tin shelters were also damaged.
Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Nepal Army have been deployed to the affected areas to search for missing people, rescue the injured and evacuate residents. Several roads and trails have been blocked by landslides, making rescue operations difficult. With heavy rainfall continuing, authorities have warned of further landslide risks and urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain in safe locations and exercise caution.
