Kathmandu – A 12-member delegation of Bangladeshi photojournalists has visited Nepal as part of a cross-border photography exchange aimed at promoting tourism, cultural understanding and professional cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh.
Led by Bangladesh Photojournalists Association (BPJA) President A K M Mohsin, the delegation was invited by the National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ) Nepal. The highlight of the visit was the ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’ International Photo Exhibition 2026, jointly organised by NFPJ Nepal and BPJA at the historic Hanumandhoka Durbar Square on World Photography Day.

The exhibition showcased Bangladesh’s landscapes, cultural heritage, historic landmarks, people and everyday life, offering Nepali audiences a visual introduction to the neighbouring country. Held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Basantapur, the exhibition also underscored photography’s role in promoting tourism and strengthening people-to-people connections.

Addressing the inauguration, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md Shafiqur Rahman called for stronger cultural and creative exchanges between the two countries. He proposed establishing an annual Bangladesh-Nepal Cultural and Creative Exchange Programme bringing together photographers, filmmakers, musicians, artists, writers and other creative professionals.
He also encouraged the two photojournalists’ associations to undertake joint tourism promotion initiatives and make greater use of digital platforms to showcase the complementary attractions of Nepal and Bangladesh. The ambassador said the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu would support such initiatives.

During their Nepal visit, the Bangladeshi photojournalists travelled to Pokhara and Chitwan to document Nepal’s landscapes, adventure tourism, biodiversity, cultural heritage and local lifestyles. In Pokhara, Bangladeshi and Nepali photojournalists jointly planted fruit-bearing saplings at Pokhara Stadium as a symbol of friendship and brotherhood.

In Chitwan, the delegation explored Sauraha and focused on wildlife, conservation, Tharu culture and community life around Chitwan National Park.
The exchange builds on more than two decades of institutional cooperation between NFPJ Nepal and BPJA, which began in 2005. The two organisations have collaborated through exhibitions, training and professional exchanges, including a joint ‘Beauty of Nepal’ exhibition in Dhaka earlier this year.

The latest initiative by both organizations demonstrates how photography can serve as a form of visual diplomacy while opening new avenues for tourism promotion and closer ties between the peoples of Nepal and Bangladesh.
