Kathmandu- Chinese EV giant BYD is preparing to expand its Ocean lineup with its first-ever MPV, which could be launched before the end of 2026. Zhang Zhuo, general manager of sales for BYD’s Ocean lineup, described the upcoming vehicle as a “one-of-a-kind offering”, although its official name, specifications and pricing have not yet been revealed.
The announcement follows the debut of BYD’s Ocean-V concept at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. Designed around off-road travel, camping and entertainment, the concept offers a glimpse at the direction BYD could take with its upcoming family-focused MPV. However, the company has not confirmed whether the new model will be a production version of the Ocean-V.
The Ocean-V concept features a futuristic cabin with no physical buttons and a center display that can slide sideways. In movie mode, the steering wheel retracts while a large entertainment screen emerges from the dashboard. For camping, the two rows of seats can be positioned face-to-face or folded flat to create a bed-like space.
BYD has previously said that some of the Ocean-V’s design elements and technologies will gradually make their way into production vehicles under the Ocean lineup.
BYD already sells MPVs through several divisions, including the Xia under the Dynasty lineup, Denza D9 and Linghui M9. If the new Ocean model launches as planned, BYD’s MPV portfolio will expand across four different product channels — Dynasty, Ocean, Denza and Linghui.
The upcoming MPV could strengthen BYD’s presence in the growing market for spacious, technology-focused vehicles designed for families, long-distance travel and outdoor lifestyles.
