Kathmandu – Authorities have issued a special warning that another major flood could occur in the Rasuwa area following information received from the Chinese side.
According to an official of Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), information provided by the Chinese side indicates that a water-filled natural dam, reportedly around 7 metres high, remains at the site of the lake believed to have burst.
The remaining water barrier could breach at any time, potentially triggering another sudden surge downstream, the official said.
Authorities have urged people not to enter or remain in riverside and downstream areas and have asked security personnel, rescue teams and relief workers deployed in the affected areas to exercise extreme caution.
Residents and all personnel involved in search, rescue and relief operations are advised to remain alert and follow instructions issued by authorities until the situation is confirmed to be safe.
