GORKHA – The District Administration Office in Gorkha has clarified that reports claiming the Budhi Gandaki River has been blocked by a landslide are false, although a landslide has occurred in the Chhekampar area of Chumnubri Rural Municipality.
Assistant Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma said the landslide occurred in Chhekampar, located at an altitude of around 3,500 metres, but confirmed that the Budhi Gandaki River itself has not been blocked. Authorities are continuing to collect further information about the incident.
Meanwhile, Chumnubri Rural Municipality Chairperson Nima Lama said the landslide occurred at Chaurikharka in Chhekampar and temporarily blocked the Syar Khola, a tributary of the Budhi Gandaki River. He said water has since started flowing again.
The clarification comes after claims circulated on social media suggesting that a major landslide in Chhekampar had blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, raising concerns about possible flooding downstream.
Authorities have urged people to rely on verified information as further details about the landslide and conditions in the remote area are being gathered.
