KATHMANDU – Long queues of cargo trucks and other vehicles remain around the Kalanki–Balkhu area as flood-related damage continues to disrupt normal traffic on the Prithvi Highway, one of the main road links connecting Kathmandu with other parts of Nepal.
Traffic movement along the highway has been severely affected after the Trishuli River eroded the road at Krishnabhir in Dhading, damaging a section of the highway and preventing vehicles from using the route normally.
The disruption has left freight vehicles and other traffic waiting around the western entry and exit points of Kathmandu, including the Kalanki side, as drivers await safer movement or use available alternative routes.
The Prithvi Highway is an important route for both passenger travel and the transportation of goods to and from the Kathmandu Valley. Continued disruption therefore affects not only travellers but also the regular movement of freight and essential supplies.
Authorities have directed vehicles toward alternative routes where possible, although these diversions can involve longer travel times and additional congestion.
Road authorities are continuing to assess the flood-damaged sections of the highway as efforts continue to restore regular connectivity. Until the affected road sections are safely reopened, travellers and transport operators may continue to face delays.
