Kathmandu — The Nepal Chamber of Commerce has handed over relief materials collected for families affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood to the Government of Nepal.
A Chamber delegation led by Senior Vice-President and Disaster Management Council Chair Deepak Kumar Malhotra delivered the supplies to the Nepal Police Disaster Management and Training Centre in Samakhusi on Sunday. The assistance, which also included materials collected by the Youth Chamber, was handed over to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
The relief package included ready-made shirts, beaten rice, different varieties of biscuits, sanitary pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, gloves, masks, T-shirts, lentils and other essential items.
The Chamber also collaborated with Lions District Council 325-G Nepal to provide additional supplies, including drinking water, instant noodles, biscuits, hygiene products, soap, diapers, mattresses, medicines, rice, clothing and gloves.
The flood in the Bhotekoshi River caused significant loss of lives and property across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other affected districts.
As part of its wider disaster-response initiative, the Chamber previously provided 17 drones to Nepal Police and two drones and 125 power banks to Bidur Municipality. It also offered financial assistance to district chambers in flood-affected areas and arranged for 500 solar power banks to be brought from India.
The Chamber said the relief materials were collected from its members and business community to provide affected families with urgently needed food, clothing and healthcare supplies. It added that the collection and distribution campaign would continue in coordination with the government.
