Kathmandu – Nepal is preparing a coordinated tourism recovery and awareness campaign to reassure the international travel market following the devastating floods at Rasuwa, Nuwakot etc, with authorities emphasizing tourist safety, rescue operations and reliable information.
The International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives has urged the government and tourism sector to go beyond simply declaring that “Nepal is safe.” It called for a credible communication strategy to restore confidence among international visitors and clearly explain safety measures and travel conditions.
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said search, rescue and relief operations remain a priority. The government has also been coordinating helicopter operations through a unified system and providing limited free public flights to support affected areas.
Tourism authorities and private-sector organizations have proposed stronger digital information systems, dedicated assistance desks for families of missing foreign tourists, and regular updates on affected destinations. They have also called for improved coordination among travel agencies, security agencies and the Nepal Tourism Board to ensure accurate information about tourists in the country.
Tourism stakeholders emphasized that Nepal should communicate clearly about which destinations and routes remain operational, while providing timely safety information to travelers.
The crisis has also highlighted the growing risks posed by climate change in Nepal’s mountain and tourism regions. Stakeholders called for stronger disaster preparedness, insurance and social protection for tourism workers, improved tourist tracking systems, and climate-resilient tourism infrastructure.
Despite the disaster in the affected areas, tourism authorities and industry representatives stressed the importance of providing accurate, transparent and timely information so travelers can make informed decisions and Nepal can gradually restore international confidence.
