Kathmandu — A charity screening of Apple Original Films’ “Tenzing” will be held in Kathmandu to raise funds for those affected by the recent Bhotekoshi flood.
The British Embassy in Kathmandu says proceeds from the screening will go into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief work in flood-hit communities.
Directed by Jennifer Peedom, the film recounts how Tenzing Norgay and New Zealander Edmund Hillary became the first confirmed climbers to summit Mount Everest in 1953. It was filmed across several scenic locations in Nepal and stars Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe, alongside Genden Phuntsok, who plays Tenzing Norgay.
“Tenzing” will open the 22nd Zurich Film Festival, with its European premiere on September 24 — Hiddleston, Dafoe and Peedom are expected to walk the festival’s green carpet. Festival CEO Christian Jungen said the film fits this year’s “Dream Big” theme, showing how ambition can push people beyond their perceived limits. The festival runs from September 24 to October 4.
By pairing a film that honors Nepal’s mountaineering legacy with a fundraiser for flood relief, the Kathmandu screening brings together cultural celebration and humanitarian support.
