Kathmandu — Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming has said Nepal and China must work together to protect the Himalayan ecosystem, noting that no single country can tackle the impacts of climate change alone.
Speaking at a Kathmandu event on Saturday, Ambassador Zhang called for stronger bilateral cooperation to address environmental challenges across the Himalayan region.
He expressed sorrow over the lives and property lost in the recent Rasuwa flood and reaffirmed China’s commitment to continued support for Nepal, saying Beijing would stand by Nepal regardless of disasters or other external challenges.
Zhang urged the two countries to strengthen weather and hydrological early-warning systems, conduct joint emergency exercises, and deepen cooperation on disaster-risk reduction. He also called for expanding practical cooperation in connectivity, trade, investment, energy, hydropower, agriculture, tourism and digital development.
His remarks underscore the growing urgency of cross-border cooperation as climate change drives up the risk of floods, landslides and other natural disasters across the Himalayan region.
