Kathmandu – The construction of a new track at Krishna Bhir in Dhading along the Prithvi Highway has been completed, clearing the way for the full resumption of vehicle movement from Thursday.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the new track was completed by Wednesday morning. With the work now finished, vehicles are expected to start moving normally along the highway from tomorrow.
The highway had remained blocked after floods in the Trishuli River on Bhadra 14 caused severe erosion at Krishna Bhir. The road damage came just four days after the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River area.
A trial movement was carried out on Bhadra 28 by allowing some heavy vehicles to pass through the newly opened track. However, regular traffic was not permitted at the time as the construction and safety-related work had not been fully completed.
According to the Department of Roads, floods on Bhadra 10 and 14 washed away around 100 metres of road in the Krishna Bhir area, completely disrupting transportation along the section.
The department said necessary equipment, manpower and resources had been mobilised to build the new track and restore road access. The reopening of the highway is expected to ease travel and transport movement along one of Nepal’s key road routes.
