Kathmandu: Nepal is set to host the Himalayan Green Energy Expo 2027 in Kathmandu from January 17 to 19, 2027 (Magh 3–5, 2083) with the aim of bringing together energy producers, investors, technology providers, policymakers and experts to support the country’s growing clean energy sector. The expo is being jointly organised by the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) and Events Solution Pvt. Ltd. under the theme “Resilient Energy, Prosperous Nepal.”
The event will be the fifth edition of the expo, following previous editions held in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024. It will focus on Nepal’s transition towards an integrated green energy system by highlighting areas such as hydropower, solar energy, wind power, energy storage, green hydrogen, electric vehicles, smart grids, digital energy and climate technologies.
Nepal’s energy sector is currently undergoing rapid expansion, with the country’s electricity production capacity reaching around 4,300 megawatts. The government has set a target of generating 30,000 megawatts of electricity by 2035, aiming to support domestic demand, industrial growth, electric mobility and cross-border electricity trade with neighbouring countries. The expo will serve as a platform to connect investment, technology and partnerships needed to achieve this goal.
The organisers said the expo will also address the growing challenges caused by climate change, including floods, landslides and other disasters affecting energy infrastructure. Discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions will focus on developing safe, sustainable and climate-resilient energy systems capable of reducing risks and supporting long-term energy security.
The three-day event will feature business-to-business meetings, the Himalayan Green Energy Conference, international country pavilions, technology demonstrations, startup showcases, project discussions and networking programmes. More than 100 exhibition stalls are expected, showcasing modern energy solutions such as turbines, solar systems, batteries, energy storage technologies, smart grid solutions and other clean energy equipment.
The expo is expected to attract participation from energy companies, investors, financial institutions, government agencies, researchers and international stakeholders from countries including India, China, Canada, Norway, Germany, South Korea and other nations. Organisers expect more than 30,000 visitors to attend and believe the event will help strengthen investment, innovation and cooperation in Nepal’s clean energy sector.
