Kathmandu: Sajha Yatayat has expanded its nighttime public transportation service across the Kathmandu Valley, increasing the number of buses to 30 from September 20. The expanded service is aimed at providing more accessible and reliable public transportation for passengers travelling during evening and late-night hours.
Under the expanded arrangement, night buses will operate across six major routes connecting different parts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. The routes include Bhaktapur–Thamel, Budhanilkantha–Godawari, Ring Road Loop, Kirtipur–Jamal, Takhel–Thamel and Airport–Nagdhunga.
The expansion builds on Sajha Yatayat’s night bus service that began in April 2026 with a limited number of buses on two main corridors. The service was introduced in coordination with local governments to improve public transportation availability during hours when regular services are more limited.
According to Sajha Yatayat, the expanded service includes buses operating between Budhanilkantha and Godawari, Bhaktapur and Thamel, Kirtipur and Jamal, and Tribhuvan International Airport and Nagdhunga, along with buses operating in both directions around the Ring Road. The expanded network is intended to connect more areas of the Valley through nighttime public transport.
The night buses are scheduled to operate from approximately 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with the number of buses and operating hours subject to adjustment according to passenger demand and service requirements. The expanded service is expected to assist people working late hours, students, health workers, security personnel and other passengers who need transportation during the evening.
The expansion marks a significant increase from the initial seven-bus night service launched in April. Sajha Yatayat has said the broader network will help improve nighttime mobility across the Valley while making public transportation more accessible during hours when passengers have fewer options.
