Kathmandu – Construction work of a new overhead pedestrian bridge is underway in front of the Kathmandu District Court at Babarmahal, aiming to improve pedestrian safety and make road crossing easier in the busy area.
The bridge is being constructed along one of Kathmandu’s heavily used road sections, where a large number of pedestrians, including court visitors, employees and nearby residents, cross the road daily. The project is intended to provide a safer alternative for pedestrians and help reduce risks caused by crossing busy traffic lanes.
The construction is being carried out under the Road Division Kathmandu. The project was initiated through a tender process for the construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge at Babarmahal, specifically in front of the Kathmandu District Court.
The newly installed steel structure shows significant progress, with major parts of the pedestrian bridge being assembled at the site. Once completed, the facility is expected to provide a dedicated crossing point for pedestrians and contribute to smoother traffic movement in the surrounding area.
The Babarmahal area is considered a busy corridor due to government offices, legal institutions and high pedestrian movement. Earlier plans for overhead bridges in Kathmandu identified Babarmahal, including the area near the District Court, as one of the locations requiring improved pedestrian infrastructure due to heavy traffic flow and pedestrian safety concerns.
The project is part of wider efforts to improve urban mobility and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in Kathmandu Valley. Authorities expect the completed bridge to enhance road safety while making daily movement more convenient for thousands of people using the area.
