China Foundation for Rural Development hands over relief supplies to Nepal

Kathmandu – The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) on Tuesday handed over 27 metric tons of humanitarian relief supplies to the Government of Nepal for communities affected by landslides and debris flows on August 26.
The relief shipment, transported to Tribhuvan International Airport with the support of China Southern Airlines, comprises more than 9,600 items, including 175 tents, 1,000 cotton-padded garments, 1,000 quilts, 1,000 emergency family kits and more than 6,000 emergency response kits.
The supplies were donated by Chinese companies and organizations, including Xiaohongshu (RedNote), High-Flyer Quant and A Drop of Life (Hong Kong).
The handover ceremony was attended by Shree lokendra Adhikari from Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs; Zhou Pan, counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal; Zou Zhiqiang, country director of the CFRD Nepal office; Yang Wenfu, general manager of China Southern Airlines in Nepal, and representatives of relevant organizations.
The CFRD activated its emergency response mechanism immediately after the disaster and mobilized relief supplies despite disruptions to roads and communications.
An initial batch of 14 tents, 1,000 food packages, 375 emergency family kits and 5,000 solar lamps arrived in Nuwakot District on Aug. 31 and was subsequently distributed in severely affected communities in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.
The foundation also established temporary shelters in Nuwakot for 41 affected households, many of them comprising women and children.
As of Sept. 20, 619 food packages, 375 emergency family kits and 5,000 solar lamps had been distributed, reaching more than 10,000 people from nearly 2,000 disaster-affected households, according to the foundation.
The relief distribution was carried out through household-level registration and acknowledgement, with local government authorities participating in verification to ensure transparency and traceability.
Following the initial emergency response, the CFRD mobilized Chinese companies and individuals to contribute about 1 million yuan (about 140,000 U.S. dollars) worth of disaster-relief supplies.
With coordination from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and support from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Administration of Customs and Civil Aviation Administration, China Southern Airlines provided free transportation for the relief supplies.
The shipment was formally handed over to Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs for coordinated distribution to affected communities and vulnerable families.
The CFRD has provided humanitarian assistance in Nepal for years, including support following earthquakes, floods and landslides. It has also worked with local partners on disaster risk reduction, early-warning systems and community resilience.
The latest assistance is expected to support affected communities as they move from emergency relief toward recovery and reconstruction.
