Kathmandu – Poetry, music and traditional flavor brought people together at the China Cultural Center in Nepal on Wednesday as it hosted a symposium marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, alongside the “A Shared Moon Across the World” 2026 Mid-Autumn Poetry Gathering.
Minister-Counselor Zhou Pan, Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, attended the program and delivered remarks. More than 200 guests, including representatives of Nepal-China friendship organization, Chinese enterprises, overseas Chinese communities, international students, teachers and Chinese-language enthusiasts, took part in the event.
A highlight of the evening was the launch of the Nepali edition of “Contemporary Chinese Poetry.”Copies of the book were presented to guests and audience members, connecting Chinese poetry with Nepali readers and creating another avenue for cultural exchange.
Poetry filled the venue in Chinese, Nepali and English, with recitations exploring universal themes of longing, reunion, friendship and hope. The words of poets from different languages echoed a simple message—that culture can bring people closer even across borders.
The gathering also featured traditional Chinese and Nepali music performed by a young Nepali sitar ensemble. Guests shared mooncakes, Nepali and Chinese delicacies and tea, adding a festive touch to the Mid-Autumn celebration.
A photo exhibition, China Through the Lens of Nepali Photographers,” offered another visual window into China, while a video presentation highlighted the country’s contemporary development.
Through poetry, music, photography, food and conversation, the evening brought together people from different backgrounds under the symbolism of the Mid-Autumn moon—celebrating friendship, cultural understanding and the enduring people-to-people ties between Nepal and China.
