Kathmandu – Nepal’s women’s kabaddi team secured a bronze medal at the 20th Asian Games in Japan after losing 48–24 to India in the semifinals on Friday.
The semifinal match, held at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium in Japan, saw India take an early lead and maintain control throughout the contest.
India dominated the first half, leading 31–17, before adding 17 points in the second half while restricting Nepal to seven. The match ended with a 24-point victory for India, sending the Indian team into the final.
Despite the defeat, Nepal secured the bronze medal, as both losing semifinalists in Asian Games kabaddi are awarded bronze without a separate third-place playoff.
The result marks Nepal’s second consecutive bronze medal in women’s kabaddi at the Asian Games. The Nepali team had also reached the semifinals of the previous edition, where it lost to India and finished with bronze.
Nepal had advanced to this year’s semifinals after defeating Sri Lanka 34–25 in its final group-stage match, securing a place among the tournament’s last four teams.
Although Nepal’s campaign ended short of the final, the bronze medal added another achievement to the country’s international kabaddi record.
