Kathmandu – Nepal will begin its men’s cricket campaign at the 20th Asian Games in Japan today, facing Afghanistan in its opening Group A match.
The match is scheduled to begin at 10:45 AM Nepali time at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The fixture follows the Group B encounter between Oman and Hong Kong.
Nepal has been placed in Group A alongside Afghanistan and host nation Japan. Afghanistan made a strong start to the tournament on Thursday, defeating Japan by 48 runs in their opening group-stage match.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, where Nepal could face either India or Sri Lanka, depending on its final position in the group standings.
Nepal will play its second group-stage match against Japan on Saturday, September 26, as it seeks to secure a place in the knockout stage.
In the previous edition of the Asian Games, held in Hangzhou, China, Nepal reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by India. The team will be looking to build on that performance in this year’s tournament.
