Kathmandu – Continuous rainfall since September 24, 2026 (Asoj 8, 2083 BS) has disrupted several sections of the NH-48 Kaligandaki Corridor (Maladhunga–Beni–Jomsom–Korala) due to landslides, road erosion and damage to bridge approach roads.
Landslides carrying mud and debris have blocked the road at several locations, including Latikhola, Farse, Jukekhola, Kerabari, Galeshwor, Raghuganga Bridge, Baisari 1, 2 and 3, Begkhola, Mahabhir, Nainibagar, Jalthale, Sukebagar, Dana and Latokhola.
The left approach road of Pokharebagar Bridge has also been washed away. Meanwhile, sections at Tatopani Kunda, Narchyang and Khambhitta have been damaged by high river flows, further disrupting transportation along the corridor.
The Department of Roads and its subordinate agencies are working at a rapid pace to clear the obstructions and restore transportation. Some affected sections have already been reopened.
According to the Department of Roads, the entire affected road section is expected to be reopened within three to six days, provided rainfall stops and weather conditions allow uninterrupted repair and clearance work.
The road disruption has also caused immediate difficulties for the transportation of goods being imported and exported through the Korala border point. However, authorities have expressed confidence that continued efforts by the Department of Roads and related agencies will restore the road soon.
