Kathmandu – President Ram Chandra Paudel has called for stronger cooperation between the government and the private sector to accelerate Nepal’s economic development, increase production and create more employment opportunities.

Addressing office-bearers and members of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) during a meeting, Paudel said a prosperous Nepal cannot be built through the efforts of the government or any single sector alone. He stressed that it requires a shared national commitment involving the state, private sector and society.
Paudel praised the private sector’s contribution to Nepal’s economy and said the progress of FNCCI and its more than 1.4 million affiliated businesspeople contributes directly to the country’s overall development.
He said the government should ensure policy stability, investment security, infrastructure development, efficient administration and a business-friendly environment, while the private sector should increase investment, production, entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation.
The President said Nepal’s priorities should include increasing domestic production, promoting exports, attracting domestic and foreign investment, creating employment and improving the country’s competitiveness. He also highlighted the potential of hydropower, tourism, agriculture and agro-based industries, information technology and other productive sectors.
Paudel particularly emphasized creating opportunities for Nepal’s young population within the country, saying that providing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people should be a shared responsibility.
He also urged FNCCI to strengthen its role in connecting Nepal’s business community with international economic networks and promoting Nepali products, services and enterprises in global markets amid growing digital transformation and international competition.
Meanwhile, FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha said Nepal’s economy remains under pressure, with investment growth below expectations, weak market demand and business confidence yet to fully recover. He also noted that recent natural disasters have added further challenges to businesses and infrastructure.
Shrestha said the private sector plays a significant role in Nepal’s GDP and employment and should be recognized as a key partner in national development. He called for stable policies, clear laws, quality infrastructure and an investment-friendly environment to encourage greater investment and economic activity.
He also stressed the need for stronger government–private sector dialogue and policy reforms to address problems faced by businesses.
President Paudel also praised FNCCI for its prompt response and support during recent natural disasters, particularly its role in rescue, relief and recovery efforts.
The meeting highlighted the need for continued government–private sector cooperation to strengthen Nepal’s economy, promote investment and build a more productive and competitive business environment.
