Kathmandu — India’s newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Sudhakar Dalela, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon to take up his diplomatic assignment.
Officials from the Embassy of India in Kathmandu and Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Dalela at Tribhuvan International Airport following his arrival.
Dalela was appointed as India’s next ambassador to Nepal on October 16, succeeding Naveen Srivastava, who completed his tenure in Kathmandu. He is a 1993-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and previously served as India’s ambassador to Bhutan from 2022 to 2025.
Before his appointment to Kathmandu, Dalela served as Secretary for Economic Relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, where he was involved in economic diplomacy, development partnerships and multilateral economic relations.
Dalela also has previous experience handling Nepal and Bhutan affairs within India’s Ministry of External Affairs. His diplomatic career has included assignments in Bhutan, Bangladesh, the United States and Israel.
His arrival comes ahead of Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s scheduled visit to Kathmandu on November 4–5. Bilateral issues and preparations for Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s proposed visit to India are expected to be among the matters discussed during the visit.
Dalela’s new assignment comes as Nepal and India continue cooperation in areas including trade, energy, connectivity and economic relations, adding further importance to his diplomatic role in Kathmandu.
