Kathmandu – The government has appointed Manoj Kumar KC as the 34th Inspector General of Nepal Police, following a Cabinet decision on November 4, 2026.
KC, who served as Additional Inspector General and headed the Crime Investigation Department at Nepal Police Headquarters, takes over the leadership of the national police organization from Dan Bahadur Karki.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint outgoing police chief Karki as a special security adviser to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, according to reports on the leadership change.
KC joined Nepal Police as an inspector in 1998 and has held several investigative and leadership roles, including at the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Central Investigation Bureau and district police offices.
He became widely known for his role in the investigation into the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, in which people were allegedly defrauded through promises of resettlement in the United States.
The investigation led to arrests and legal proceedings involving several prominent figures. KC has also worked on cases involving financial fraud and organized crime.
KC holds a doctorate in conflict transformation from Pannasastra University in Cambodia and has pursued postgraduate studies in related fields.
As Inspector General, KC will oversee policing, criminal investigations, public security and the administration of Nepal Police nationwide.
