Kathmandu – A Japanese Food Festival is being held in Kathmandu to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, alongside the seventh anniversary of Hokkaido Group.
Organized through a collaboration between Hokkaido Group and Radisson Hotel Kathmandu, the festival aims to introduce visitors to authentic Japanese cuisine, traditional cooking techniques and cultural experiences.
The event is taking place at Hokkaido Asian Cuisine on the Radisson Hotel premises in Lazimpat from November 3 to 9, 2026.
According to the organizers, the festival features a Japanese dinner buffet from 5 pm to 8 pm, with live sushi and teppanyaki preparations. The advertised buffet price is Rs 3,000 per person, including a soft drink, taxes and service charges.
The promotional material lists a limit of 70 guests per day. Visitors are advised to confirm reservations and availability with the organizers.
One of the festival’s main attractions is Japanese sushi chef Kazunori Hayashi, who is demonstrating traditional sushi-making techniques. Visitors can watch dishes being prepared and learn about the skills and presentation styles associated with Japanese cuisine.
The festival features approximately 48 dishes across nine categories, including nigiri sushi, hosomaki rolls and teppanyaki, according to the organizers.
Beyond food, the event also introduces visitors to Japanese cultural traditions through activities such as Japanese calligraphy and demonstrations of traditional matcha tea preparation.
The festival coincides with the seventh anniversary of Hokkaido Group, which began its operations in Nepal in 2019. Founded by Arjun Adhikari, the group was established with the aim of bringing Japanese culinary and hospitality experiences to Nepal.
Beginning its journey at Park Village Resort, Hokkaido Group has since expanded its restaurant operations across Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara and Chitwan. The group says it currently operates 10 restaurants and outlets.
By bringing Japanese cuisine and cultural experiences together, the festival seeks to strengthen people-to-people connections between Nepal and Japan while contributing to the diversity of Nepal’s hospitality and dining industry.
The organizers expect the celebration to help promote Japanese food culture in Nepal and encourage greater cultural exchange between the two countries.
The festival is scheduled to conclude on November 9, 2026. For further information, visitors can contact the organizers at +977-9801011302.
