Preserving roadside wisdom: ‘Sawari Kathaharu: Art in Motion’ showcases creative vehicle literature at Siddhartha Art Gallery
Siddhartha Art Gallery in Kathmandu is organizing a ‘Sawari Kathaharu: Art in Motion’ exhibition celebrating the fusion of art, literature, and the open road.
The exhibition, inaugurated by poet and playwright Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi, will run until May 27.
The exhibition features photography, videography, and digital art, showcasing creative writings traditionally found on the backs of vehicles.
In his review, Dr. Subedi mentioned that the creative writings on the backs of vehicles reflect the drivers’ pain, happiness, celebrations, and the state of society. This also mirrors the culture and traditions of the community.
Despite traffic police removing such literature from vehicles, artists Abhushan Gautam (Literature of Wheels), Sravasti Ghosh Dastidar, Urza Acharya, and Shubha Joshi aim to preserve this unique expression.
The exhibition includes over two hundred photos with notable phrases whereas the prices for the artworks range from 2,500 to 15,000 rupees.
